Five Resume Writing Tips That Will Land You A Job Interview

The first step in landing a job is to create an outstanding resume. Creating a resume does not mean only listing out all your achievements and experiences. Of course, it is a document that summarizes your accomplishments and background, but what elevates your chances of getting a phone call is how well you present the list of skills and education in your document.

Not sure how to go about writing a resume that gets looked at? Continue reading for more insight.

1. Customize Your Resume

If you think that using the same resume for every job you apply for will aid you in getting the job, think again. According to hiring companies and their job specifications, personalizing your resume might be tedious, but it’s all worth it. Tailoring the resume will increase your chances of being considered since it will be the perfect match for a specific company’s job requirements.

2. Usage of Keywords

Finding the keywords in job postings and then using them in your resume is ideal for getting noticed. Why is this significant? Software bots can now help narrow down a resume with technical assistance before the recruiting team gets their hands on your resume. So, one way of getting past the bots is using the exact keywords mentioned in the job descriptions. Also, do not add words that hold little to no value since they can weaken your resume writing.

3. List Your Relevant Accomplishments in Reverse-Chronological Order

You don’t want the recruiter to miss out on your most important and relevant accomplishments in a long list. Mention right above the experiences you think will work the most in your favor per the job requirements.

4. Don’t Forget to Mention Your Contact Information

While it may not be necessary to add your personal information like date of birth or religion and race, it is highly recommendable to add a contact section. This part should have your full name, email address, city, state, phone number, and professional links like LinkedIn profiles.
If you are focusing on drafting a perfect resume, then mentioning your contact information is significant. You want to provide as much background as possible to the employer rather than providing them with incomplete information.

5. Review Your Resume

Your resume isn’t a text message you send to your best friend, who will often overlook the typos. It is a professional document that holds great significance to help land you a job. Hence, look out for typing mistakes, improper punctuation, the types of fonts used to write your resume, and the format.

It’s always a good option to consult a professional resume writing coach to assist you with your resume writing. After all, this is something that carries the weight of your future.

Closing Thoughts

Resume writing isn’t a complex job at all; it’s just the art of how you represent yourself through your writing in this two-page document. However, the resume can make or break you. Hence, be mindful of how you create your winning resume.

Keep these 5 tips in mind, and you will be able to create an exceptional resume.

Happy impressive-resume-writing!
